Keep supplier, capability and catalog records separate
Thomasnet is an industrial supplier-discovery directory. Its public search spans suppliers, capabilities and product catalogs; a profile or catalog row is not a live retail offer or confirmed production slot. Thomas describes supplier profiles with catalogs and/or capability profiles, so missing detail means unknown coverage rather than evidence of no capability.

| Record | Fields to preserve | Interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| Supplier profile | Company name and profile URL; supplier type; location and service area when stated; category; public contact path | The organization record. A location is not necessarily the full service area. |
| Capability profile | Capability or service wording; process/material/specification terms; profile section and source date | A description of work offered does not confirm current capacity, lead time or acceptance of a specific job. |
| Product catalog entry | Catalog/product label and URL; manufacturer or brand when shown; listed specifications; source date | Catalog presence is distinct from current inventory, price, MOQ and a purchasable offer. |
| Buyer inquiry | RFI or contact action; participating supplier; buyer-owned message/project context; sent time | A request starts a conversation. It is not a supplier response, quote or order. |
Search dimensions are discovery signals
Thomas documents supplier search by name, brand, product catalog and free-text product, service or capability terms. Its filters help buyers narrow candidates before qualification.

| Search dimension | Thomas-documented values | Record carefully |
|---|---|---|
| Query and category | Parts, services, equipment, capabilities, product details, specifications and categories | Keep the entered phrase and selected category so a saved result can be interpreted later. |
| Supplier and geography | Company type, state/province or region, location and supported radius searches | Supplier location and locations served are separate when both are available. |
| Catalog and media | Product catalog or capabilities profile; company overview, factory tour or project spotlight videos | These are profile-coverage indicators, not structured inventory or capacity fields. |
| Ordering and ranking | Relevance by default; documented sorts include company size, revenue and founding year | Store the selected sort and observation time. Ranking is not a supplier-quality score. |
| Qualification filters | Quality certifications, other certifications/registrations, ownership diversity, origin declarations, Thomas Verified and Xometry Partner | Keep each selected filter as its own value; do not merge badges, declarations and issuer certifications. |
Preserve certification and origin evidence
Thomas exposes different evidence levels for certification and diversity information. Keep the badge's source and proof level with the qualification; a directory marker is not a legal or contract-compliance determination. When a designation is shown, record the exact label and whether its evidence is self-reported, third-party, supplier-site or a viewable document.

| Thomas marker or designation | What the source describes | Comparison rule |
|---|---|---|
| Self-reported | The supplier reported its certification or diversity status to Thomas | Label as supplier-reported; do not present as independently verified. |
| Third-party record | A third-party organization has a record of the company's certification | Retain the organization and linked evidence when available. |
| Supplier website | The supplier describes the qualification on its own site | Attribute the evidence to the supplier's website. |
| Certificate available | A certificate copy can be previewed or downloaded | Preserve the certificate reference and its available details; do not infer validity beyond them. |
| Thomas Verified | Thomas says it checks North American operation, profile business information, listed products/services and readiness to quote | This is Thomas's supplier-validation badge, not an issuer certification or a guarantee of future capacity. |
| Origin designations | Made in the USA; Buy American Act; Berry Amendment | Keep the designation distinct. Thomas describes Made in the USA as one or more offerings stated to be U.S.-manufactured; the other two have separate procurement criteria and buyer contexts. |
Buyer tools produce account-specific records
Thomas's documented tools connect public supplier profiles to a buyer's saved research. Preserve the tool output and timestamp separately from observations of the public profile.

| Buyer action | Result | Data boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Save and shortlist | A saved supplier list or project-specific shortlist in the buyer's Thomas account | User-created collection; membership and notes are not public supplier fields. |
| Export shortlist | A CSV of selected or all companies in that shortlist | Account export is a buyer workflow artifact; keep export time and selected companies. |
| Request Supplier Summary Report | A downloadable PDF with company-profile information, certifications and supplier classifications | A requested account report, not a live market-data feed; Thomas says it appears in Downloads after processing. |
| Send RFI or contact | A message to one supplier or up to five selected suppliers in search | Buyer message, project details and supplier reply are private interaction records, not public listing observations. |
Respect the source's access boundaries
The reviewed U.S.-site Terms prohibit scraping and data-mining/robots tools and restrict third-party redistribution and commercial comparison databases. They describe a narrow single-copy exception for internal use with proprietary notices retained. Thomas's robots file separately defines crawler-specific and query-string rules; a robots directive does not grant content-use permission.

| Reference | Observed scope | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Terms | Terms page applies to the U.S.-based Thomas website and says it does not govern affiliate websites/services outside the United States | Review the posted terms for the intended account, service and use; do not treat visibility as a collection license. |
| robots.txt | Crawler-specific exclusions, query-parameter rules, explicit pagination exceptions and sitemap locations | Use only as crawl-policy context, distinct from Terms, privacy rules or any separate permission. |
| Profile and account data | Publicly displayed company information is distinct from account login, shortlist, RFI and report content | Exclude account-only buyer/supplier interaction data from public listing comparisons. |
