## A tea, a package and a gift are separate catalog records.

Harney & Sons presents tea families and individual tea pages, then offers selectable package types and units. A gift can appear as an option beside a tea without being another weight or format of that tea. Preserve the relationship while keeping each record at the level the storefront actually names.

| Record level | What to capture | Keep distinct |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Tea identity | Displayed name, item code, tea type, category, ingredient and blend/origin wording | The named tea is the parent identity; do not infer a universal stock code for each option. |
| Package option | Selector label, exact unit, count or weight, and package format | A 50-sachet bag and a loose-leaf tin are different purchasable units, even when the tea name matches. |
| Gift or bundle | Gift title and each named tea, accessory or other component | Keep the bundle parent and its components separate from a single-tea option. |
| Offer snapshot | Price and currency, stock/notify message, one-time or recurring status, and observation date | An offer state changes over time and does not redefine the tea identity. |

## The selector determines the unit represented by a listing.

On Harney’s standard Darjeeling page, item code 35011 sits above selectable sachet and loose formats. The available units include 20 sachets, 50 sachets, a box of 20 individually wrapped sachets, 4 oz and 8 oz tins, a 1 lb bag, and a Creamy Chai Gift option. Keep the exact selector path with each observed unit; do not flatten a gift into a tea size.

| Source label | Record it as | Why the distinction matters |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Packaging Type: Sachets / Loose | Selected package family | The selected package family can change while the displayed tea name stays the same. |
| Tin of 20 / Bag of 50 / Box of 20 wrapped sachets | Exact count and package unit | Count and wrap style are part of the purchasable unit; retain the source's wording. |
| 4 oz Tin / 8 oz Tin / 1 lb Bag | Exact mass and container | Do not compare price without preserving the weight and currency. |
| Creamy Chai Gift | Gift/bundle option with components to resolve from its own detail page | A bundle should not inherit the base tea’s ingredient, weight or crop fields. |
| Teesta Valley 1st Flush | The unit selector says 3 oz. Tin; an image alt label says 3.5 oz. | Keep the selector and asset-label values with their source locations; flag the conflict rather than choosing one. |

## Origin, flush and harvest date belong to a named tea and crop.

A region-level tea can combine harvest seasons, while a named garden product can describe one crop. Harney calls its standard Darjeeling a blend of first-flush and autumnal teas. Its Teesta Valley 1st Flush page describes a particular 2026 harvest. Use those as separate examples rather than assigning the Teesta crop’s facts to all Darjeeling tea.

| Field | Standard Darjeeling page | Teesta Valley 1st Flush page, checked Sep 30, 2026 |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Identity / crop scope | Regional Darjeeling blend | Named Teesta Valley first-flush item and a specific 2026 crop |
| Flush / harvest | Blend includes first-flush and autumnal teas | Page dates this crop to March 11, 2026; do not carry the date to another harvest. |
| Garden / elevation | No single garden elevation is stated for the blend | Harney describes Teesta Valley across 1,950–4,200 feet. |
| Cultivar / missingness | Do not infer a cultivar from the regional name | The page says old China-variety cultivar; retain this as source-attributed wording. |

## Mike Harney’s ratings are house sensory fields.

Harney defines Mike’s Tea Ratings on a 0–5 scale, where zero means none of an attribute and five means it is a primary characteristic. Store the three ratings as Harney-authored sensory descriptions. Keep them separate from prose notes, the product’s body label and brewing instructions.

| Field | Harney’s description | How to preserve it |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Briskness, 0–5 | Astringency or mouth-puckering quality | Keep the numeric score and source explanation together; do not call it a quality grade. |
| Body, 0–5 | How thick or light the tea feels in the mouth | Do not collapse the score into a separate label such as “Medium-bodied.” |
| Aroma, 0–5 | The tea’s pleasant-smell characteristic | Treat it as Harney’s rating, not an independent sensory review. |
| Brew and item notes | Teesta Valley page lists 3 minutes at 175°F and separately shows “Medium-bodied” and caffeine status | Keep brewing directions, narrative tasting notes and caffeine wording attached to the exact item page. |

## Gift and subscription details change the offer record.

Harney’s current subscription page, checked September 30, 2026, says subscribers can skip, swap or cancel; most products offer recurring intervals of 20, 30, 45, 60, 90 or 120 days. Those choices belong to a recurring offer, not the tea’s package identity. Check the live page before using any cadence or discount in a time-sensitive comparison.

| Offer field | Capture | Do not infer |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Gift set | Bundle title, named tea/accessory components, each component’s stated package and count | A photo or parent title does not establish all component sizes. |
| Subscription | Recurring status, selected interval and displayed unit/price at the observation time | Do not treat one-time and subscription prices as interchangeable. |
| Price history | Exact tea and package unit, currency, offer type, source page and timestamp | A price change is not a change to the underlying tea identity. |
| Availability | In-stock, unavailable or notification wording exactly as shown | Do not carry a temporary stock state to other units or future dates. |
